We Argue Too Often

Arguments can contaminate any relationship, but especially a marriage. If you and your partner find yourselves doing verbal battle on a regular basis, then you need to come to the realization that this isn’t healthy and will actually have a detrimental effect on your efforts to save the marriage. Arguments occur when frustration boils over, and frustration can boil over for any number of reasons.
Some people grow up thinking arguing is normal, and even healthy. Yes, getting things out in the open and clearing the air can be healthy – but if you have to get there via raised voices, personal insults and accusations then something is wrong. We all get frustrated from time to time, but there is no reason why we can’t communicate effectively and respectfully at all times.
It takes two to tango, and it takes two to argue. Stick to the following rules to make sure you are doing your best to communicate effectively and respectfully:-
-DO NOT raise your voice
-DO NOT make personal insults
-DO NOT point your finger or make accusations
-DO NOT swear
-DO NOT bring up irrelevant issues
Ideally, both of you will stick to these rules. Even if only one of you does though, it will make resolution a greater possibility. Make sure not to react to any negativity. If you can stay calm and express yourself in the right way, the chances are your partner will follow suit. Arguing contaminates relationships, communicating effectively contributes to them.
